facebook tactics of use

Page history last edited by Sarah Burris 2 yrs ago

Facebook recently released their Platform that lets you use several different applications within facebook.  This is akin to having a widget from your favorite org or candidate within your facebook profile page.

The trick is to develop an Application that enhances your organization, increases accesss to information, and donations.  Essentially you can use this application for whatever you imagine.  Obama's application puts the most recent campaign video and news on your facebook profile and in front of your friends. It also enables you to easily communicate with your friends in early primary states.  Other applications include an Eventful application, ribbon campaigns, applications to show off which candidate is your pick for the 2008 election, etc...

Depending on your involvement you can develop an application that feeds your updates that you generally mass email to your email list, a possible feed if your organization has a blog, and possibly a photo feed from your events.  Increasing your engagement from your org to your "friends" before asking for donations is probably best.  That said the Save Darfur Coalition joined the Causes application and without even doing any kind of recruitment raised an obscene amount of money.

The Causes Application is great because it can drive traffic to your organization, build your list, and get you money - but it is only available to 501c3's.

Growing your "friend" list on Facebook is more difficult than on MySpace.  On Facebook you have to use the 2nd Tier method - where you look at your existing friends and then friend those people.
