Second Life is exactly what it sounds. A virtual place much like The Sims where people can create avatars and "live" in a society of fellow users. Politicians and organizations are using this as a virtual place to give speeches or broadcast speaches so anyone can listen to them and hear their policies or more about their campaign.
"I'm the canary in the coal mine," Rep. George Miller told the audience. "Second Life is the next frontier and hopefully other members will use it to expand the [public's] interest and participation in Congress. I'm going to report back to my colleagues about how all this works."
